I guess I didn't have any getting rid of stuff stories.
Today, I got rid of a pair of loafers, a pair of sneakers, three pairs of slippers, two purses, and a belt that were all either broken or worn out. I contributed them to the recycle pile at the thrift store where I volunteer. It'll all be sent up to a center in Kansas City that pays us for the stuff.

I'll probably find more stuff to get rid of as I go along.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-61284106936118939942011-05-11T06:36:00.000-07:002011-05-11T06:36:37.643-07:00Getting Rid of Two Shirts TodayI noticed the other day that a t-shirt I've had since shortly before I had started college was wearing out at the neckline. Yesterday, I noticed that another one was wearing out near the shoulder. As I have a pretty extensive wardrobe without holding onto these, I will be taking them to the thrift store where I volunteer for them to be recycled.

As a rule, clothing that is in bad shape, out of season, or otherwise can't be sold, is sent put in a bag for recycling. It used to be the local recycling center that would pick up our recycling. However, we got an offer from a recycling center in Kansas City where we would get paid for what they picked up from us. Thus, according to our manager, we can afford to be a little more selective about what gets put up for sale. I used to simply throw away worn out clothing, but since our store would be getting money for it regardless, I might as well donate to the recycling pile. (And I'm not the only one who has done that, either.)Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-27178197944110639382011-02-17T13:29:00.000-08:002011-02-17T13:29:11.099-08:00Finished A Sudoku BookToday, I filled what I had left of some puzzles in an orange Sudoku book. I'm at my sister's house for at least this week for reasons I can't go into, and it'll be one last thing for me to take back home.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-82373620929855575542011-01-31T17:38:00.000-08:002011-01-31T17:38:31.767-08:00Finshed A Sudoku BookI managed to go through all the pages of a book of sudoku puzzles that I have. I messed up on some of the puzzles, including the last one, but I managed to complete most of them correctly.

I might work on another sudoku book tomorrow if I end up staying in all day.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-16692354807455566772011-01-11T14:43:00.000-08:002011-01-11T14:43:37.593-08:00Getting Rid Of A Pair Of JeansA pair of dark blue jeans that my sister had given me this summer (presumably ones she was unable to wear herself) have developed holes in the butt and in the inseam. Mind you, these are small holes and while the former one could be patched up, I'm sure, I'm afraid it'd be a bit too awkward for the latter one.

So as of today, I'm getting rid of said jeans. That leaves me down to one or two other pairs, a pair of overalls, multiple pairs of slacks, and several skirts.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-35834501408154923012010-12-19T18:14:00.001-08:002010-12-19T18:14:18.999-08:00Got Rid Of A Pen That Wasn't Working AnymoreI know my posts here have been "hit and miss" at best. Unfortunately, there's not a lot I have that has been fully used up lately. (I do have some lotion that I have been using that seems to be coming close to running out, though.)

Anyway, I had a pen sitting around my room for a while. There were times when I would try to use it, and I couldn't because it didn't have any ink. So, I've thrown it away. But that's okay. I can find other things to write with.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-8392030222047299472010-11-18T13:08:00.000-08:002010-11-18T13:08:24.943-08:00Used Up Another PerfumeSometime yesterday, I used up a perfume that I had for quite some time called "Incognito." It was perfume number 2 out of a three pack of ones that came in small bottles.

The next one I will be trying to use up is called "Heaven Scent".Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-49042202218839355602010-10-28T12:08:00.000-07:002010-10-28T12:08:02.377-07:00Unrelated AnnouncementI haven't fully used up or worn out anything lately, I'm afraid. I have, however, found various pieces of trash, including old bulletins to dispose of.

The real reason I'm posting this time is to let anybody who appears here know of my upcoming miniseries of posts, Miss Scissors: Reading is the Key, which will premiere tomorrow on RAB-PIA. If I'm lucky enough, I'll be able to get through some books on my reading list that I can pass along for someone else to enjoy.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-72705518145846540072010-10-26T16:13:00.001-07:002010-10-26T16:13:31.150-07:00Donated Some More ClothesI had gone through some clothes last week to see what fit and what didn't. Some of the sleeves were to long or too loose on me for how they were made. So, said clothing has been donated to the Salvation Army. I'm down to one or two bins of sweaters now.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-47052240103037262972010-10-19T16:12:00.000-07:002010-10-19T16:12:52.779-07:00Donated Some ClothesAs much as I have tried to hold onto clothing that comes into my wardrobe until it wears out, I was told this weekend that I'd need to pare down a bit in order to help free up the bins used to hold them over the summer and thus free up space in my room.

I had some sweaters that had been up for elimination at the thrift store where I volunteer that some then colleagues had held onto for me in case I wanted them. I took them home and later sent them to storage for the season. I regained access to them this past weekend. There were three bins of them.

The ones I eliminated today were mainly ones that would maybe be okay on one of my grandmas but would be too "old" to be appropriate for me. I'd donate them at the store I volunteer at, but to say that space has gotten tight on us would be in understatement. So, I donated them to the local branch of the Salvation Army.

I went through the sweaters remaining even more today. I currently have a bag filled with sweaters, a jacket, and at least one sweatshirt that turned out to be too big for me. Those will be the next to go, but I'll still have plenty of what's left to incorporate into various outfits throughout the fall and winter.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-12879410090178248362010-10-15T06:45:00.001-07:002010-10-15T06:45:56.596-07:00Finally Used Up A PerfumeThis morning, I used up the last of a small perfume called "California" and have disposed of its respective container. The next one I will concentrate on using up is called "Incognito".Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-81505431063298635822010-10-14T06:17:00.000-07:002010-10-14T06:17:40.842-07:00One Perfume Almost OutI have been using a perfume lately called "California" which is in a small bottle. If I remember correctly, I got this in a set of three small perfumes for Christmas a long time ago but hadn't had much cause to use.

It'll probably be tomorrow or Saturday before I use it all up. Then, I can throw out the container, and it'll be one less thing I have to worry about hauling around.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-82286405685127380762010-10-07T13:32:00.001-07:002010-10-07T13:32:51.070-07:00Down Another Pair Of SocksI had a pair of thick red socks for quite some time. One of them wore out in the whole, so they're gone now.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-91539057332141532992010-09-30T12:26:00.000-07:002010-09-30T12:26:14.070-07:00Down A Shirt As Of TodayA blue secondhand long-sleeved shirt that I've had since earlier this year turned out to have a couple of holes in it, so I've retired it. That's okay, though as I still have plenty of shirts to wear out.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-28509273308412067142010-09-18T18:14:00.000-07:002010-09-18T18:16:40.620-07:00One Of My Polishes Has Been Used UpSometime last week, I used up one of my nail polishes. It was some shade of pink, which I mostly wore on my fingernails. It was one of the few polishes I would wear on my fingernails at this time as I'm seeking employment and am trying to play it safe on my "look". (The bolder polishes I wear on my toenails if I wear them at all.)

So now, I wear a light shade of brown on my fingernails. (I might switch to bolder polishes once I have a job where I know what's okay.)Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-47743336737132862892010-09-07T18:59:00.001-07:002010-09-07T18:59:13.815-07:00Took Stuff To Be RecycledToday, I took some newspapers that I had accumulated over to the college campus recycling bins. That'll be less space taken up in my room as well as the landfill.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-49789456320720982302010-09-05T10:41:00.000-07:002010-09-05T10:41:15.377-07:00One Pair Of Socks Down As Of Last NightIn the past several weeks, I've had little, if any cause, to wear socks. (Depending on the situation, I might wear pantyhose if even that.) Most of the time I'd wear my blue "at-home" flip-flops or a pair of sandals with nothing underneath.

It's only in the last week or so that the weather has cooled down enough to warrant socks and closed shoes for me (outside of my job search, for which sandals would be a no-no). Yesterday, along with a pair of sneakers that are overdue for replacement, I wore a pair of socks that were wearing thing. Last night, when I took them off, they turned out to have developed holes in them. So, those socks are gone.

I don't think I have a lot of white socks left, but I at least have socks of some sort that I can wear as the weather cools down.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-8696863656084317472010-08-29T19:35:00.000-07:002010-08-29T19:35:32.609-07:00Retiring Some ClothesLast week, I threw away a couple of shirts that had holes in them. (If I didn't already have a lot of shirts, I would've held onto them.) As a rule, as long as a shirt has all of the fabric intact, it stays until it develops a hole or shows signs of wear in say, the collar.

With pants, the rule is they stay until they wear out at the butt or inseam, or the leg in the case of shorts. If a pair of long pants has a hole in the knee, I can cutoff the part of the leg where the hole begins (and the corresponding part of the other leg), and they'd become a pair of shorts.

One of the pairs of shorts that I have is a khaki cargo pair that used to belong to my sister. However, they turned out not to fit her, so she gave them to me. Lately, I've noticed that they're starting to develop a small hole in on of the legs. I think I'm going to have this be the last week that I wear them.(Besides, while the zippper can be closed, it won't stay closed.) Then I'll be down to three pairs of shorts (one of which is a black stretchy pair that started out as long pants until they developed a hole in one knee). I doubt that I'll wear them all out before it's time to put them away though.

So that's three less garments in my wardrobe. That should make for more space as well as more "wearing" time for other clothes that I have.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-77275949015901219842010-08-25T17:25:00.000-07:002010-08-25T17:25:59.967-07:00Eating Chocolate That I've Had For Over A YearOver a year ago, I had gotten about three or four boxes of Whitman's chocolate which I kept in a drawer. I had eaten all but one at some point. I'm eating the last box as I write this.

The box had been shrinkwrapped the whole time. It doesn't look like it's in bad shape at all. I doubt all get any posioning from eating it. (I'll let you know if I do.) After I've eaten the all of the chocolate in the box, I can throw the box away, and it'll be one less thing I'll have sitting around.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6999697699433426069.post-64562424736424231302010-08-24T15:51:00.000-07:002010-08-24T15:51:51.612-07:00Welcome To Project WhitespaceDo you ever find your self accumualting a lot of stuff over time, some of which could be thrown out or is waiting to be used up or worn out? I do. Sometimes, I feel like it's a stumbling block against my being as organized as I ought to be.

Right now, I have more clothes than I can fit in my dresser, and a lot of it is too intact to get rid of. I also have a lot of lotions, perfumes, nail polishes, eyeshadows, etc. to use up. Very little of it is stuff that I have brought into my possession myself. Rather, it is often a contribution from someone in the family. I also have papers and mail I have collected that I maybe could throw away.

Using up, wearing out, or throwing out stuff of my own to create more "space" in my life is only one part of my "project".

There is also another part. I currently volunteer at one of the thrift stores in my hometown. Sometimes various displays, especially clothing racks and bookshelves, tend to get rather crowded. At various times, I will buy books from there (and any other place that sells used books) to free up shelf space. After that I will register them with Bookcrossing, read them, than release them to some random public place for someone else to find and enjoy.

So there you have it. I will be focusing on using up and wearing out things that I own (as I don't like to get rid of intact clothing or any leftover cosmetics or anything like that) and tossing out needless papers, empty containers, and clothing that has been worn down to the point of having holes and making my life a little more simple...maybe.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0
